{"id":238,"date":"2016-06-12T11:29:14","date_gmt":"2016-06-12T15:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fs1inc.com\/blog\/?p=238"},"modified":"2025-12-04T00:07:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T05:07:50","slug":"car-traffic-engine-computer-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fs1inc.com\/blog\/car-traffic-engine-computer-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Auto-Duel: Apps versus Humans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You worked hard for years, then actually wound up living\u00a0the American Dream: your own house in a nice quiet part of town, with a lawn and even a backyard, too. \u00a0And a garage. \u00a0A two-car garage, no less. \u00a0It might\u00a0even be attached. \u00a0Plus quiet neighbors, leafy tree- and bush-lined sidewalks, wide open streets&#8230;the American Dream come true.<\/p>\n<p>Except it&#8217;s 2016 and apps like Waze and Google Maps are so popular they&#8217;re really a must, one of the top reasons to own a smartphone. \u00a0And so those wide open streets are anything but quiet anymore. \u00a0Not even so open, given all the cars passing through these days. \u00a0Every day. \u00a0Several <a title=\"The Washington Post Reports...\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/traffic-weary-homeowners-and-waze-are-at-war-again-guess-whos-winning\/2016\/06\/05\/c466df46-299d-11e6-b989-4e5479715b54_story.html\"><em>hundred<\/em><\/a> an hour now from just ten or so before.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the flip-side of technological progress: major disruption &#8212; in this case, of many a neighborhood&#8217;s peace and quiet as motorists consult such apps advising them on the quickest routes.<\/p>\n<p>Who&#8217;d ever have thought that an app intended to avoid traffic can become a generator of traffic??<\/p>\n<h4>Because Car Traffic Engine Computer App Wars!<\/h4>\n<p>And so fed-up homeowners have taken it upon themselves to stop crisscrossing car-drivers. \u00a0They&#8217;ve opened accounts at Waze and the like and have posted false reports of roadblocks in their neighborhoods, construction on their streets, traffic accidents outside their homes&#8230;but of course the brains behind these hi-tech apps have various safeguards in place to catch and neutralize such sabotage. \u00a0For example, since these apps access the GPS functionality of their users&#8217; smartphones, they know where everyone is and how fast they&#8217;re going &#8212; so if a few stationary accounts report some kind of roadblock and yet everyone else is zipping through that roadblock just fine, then obviously some folks need to be banned from the service!<\/p>\n<h4>&#8220;There&#8217;s an App for That&#8221;&#8230;<em>Not<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Supposedly, there&#8217;s an app for everything &#8212; anything you want to do, somebody&#8217;s built the software already. \u00a0But that&#8217;s highly doubtful in this matter.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is that\u00a0there&#8217;s just nothing disgruntled homeowners and neighbors can hope for &#8212; except maybe an app that allows them to turn the tables somehow, sending out <em>false<\/em> GPS info to Waze and Google Maps so that they are not stationary but &#8220;appropriately mobile&#8221; (that is, moving at a realistic speed)&#8230;who knows. \u00a0But there&#8217;s also the very real and practical legal matter that, well, it&#8217;s perfectly legal for people to drive\u00a0through quiet neighborhoods, even en masse&#8230;and speaking of legality, whatever hack that&#8217;s built could be argued to constitute an actual real-life no-joke harm to Waze or Google Maps of what have you: in so far as the hack is successful, it prevents these services from being useful &#8212; and the\u00a0<em>only<\/em> way for the hack to be useful is to, as its very name implies, somehow hack into these services, surely violating their TOC&#8217;s&#8230;unless the law changes &#8212; and folks have raised the issue with their local representatives, though efforts have been extremely rare and unfruitful so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Apps versus Humans as homeowners battle thru-traffic empowered by modern hi-tech!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":745,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[26],"class_list":["post-238","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-feature","tag-code"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Auto-Duel: Apps versus Humans - Flagship One Blog<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Techonological progress and the rise of map apps has led to disruption in many neighborhoods.
